Brimbank staff supports ‘Vindaloo against violence’
Brimbank City Council Administrators and staff will support the international campaign “Vindaloo Against Violence” an initiative run by Melbourne web designer Mia Northrop and supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission.
he campaign calls on people to have dinner at a local Indian restaurant to make a public show of support for the Indian community, in light of recent acts of violence against the Indian community. Council Administrators and staff, who will participate in the event, will do so independently as their dinner and attendance will not be funded by Council.

The campaign aims to give Melbournians an opportunity to peacefully:
Express their anger and disappointment that racially motivated violence is occurring in their city
Embrace and show solidarity with the local Indian community
Mount a show of force against the perpetrators of violence

Brimbank’s Chair of Administrators Peter Lewinsky, said: “We have a large population of Indian nationals who call Brimbank home, and through this initiative we want to show our support for the Indian community. The initiative was started by Ms Northrop to shift media attention to identifying the root causes of racially motivated violence, and to find ways to diffuse criminal behaviour.

“I agree with Ms Northrop that it would be great if restaurants that benefited from this campaign, continued the spirit of the event and ‘pay it forward’, such as donating funds raised through the initiative, to a worthy local anti-violence or anti-racism cause.”
